- Building Bridges
Compact yet powerful the Fairtrade coffee break gives you the chance to introduce Fairtrade to your friends, neighbours or colleagues.
Including one ground or bean coffee, one tea (25 or 20 bag boxes only) and 3 additional, individually wrapped teas, for your tasting pleasure. This price includes packing and posting Australia wide. We include a short, 5 minute speech to help you on your way.
Fairtrade Fortnight is the perfect time to host this mini event but it can happen all year round. There is never a bad time to start doing the right thing for our neighbours in this global village.
Here are two ideas for getting people together in your lounge or work staff room.
You and your friends can travel to an exotic destination without leaving your four walls.
1. The Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony
Set an African tone by adapting this Ethiopian coffee ceremony, where the coffee is roasted, brewed and served in front of you. You'll need a colourful table cloth and some small coffee cups, like the Chinese tea cups. When everyone is there start boiling the water and put the coffee to brew while 'painting the picture' of the Ethiopian Coffee ceremony. As the smell of coffee brewing gets the taste buds going you can share some of the facts about coffee and its birthplace, Ethiopia, and Fairtrade.
If you have the time maybe you can make some Ethiopian pancakes to serve. The Injera recipe will be included.
2. The Sustainabili-Tea, destination, Sri Lanka
Find a lovely tropical table cloth for your lounge or work tea room. An old tea pot would give the relaxed atmosphere of taking time over friendship. Assorted tea cups and saucers will add to the authentic feel. Once again, fresh boiling water for your tea bags or tea leaves. While it brews you can share our 5 minute talk on the Fairtrade difference. Sri Lankan sweets seem to take a little longer to make, so maybe you can use Fairtrade cocoa to make a lovely chocolate cake.
If you can find some African or Sri Lankan music this will certainly add to your function.
Plan to invite about 12 people if you want 6 to arrive, then again all 12 might come. Make sure you have the room. We will include extra information your friends can read while waiting, along with a Fairtrade poster and a picture of the flag of Sri Lanka and Ethiopia.
A map would be handy to locate these countries. A quick check on the internet will give you interesting facts on the history and geography of each nation.
